Haha, here's one for ShockofGod I think :P
What the hell? This on Stumble Upon. Where are the debates? The flaming? *disappointed* Awesome comic, by the way. Gonna send it to all my christian friends.
One year later, still no shitstorm. Irrelevant comic is irrelevant?
*Generic shitstorm comment, possibly about how evolution is clearly bullshit because there are still apes and some old book says something what says its different*
*Generic shitstorm rebuttal, possibly with a Bollywood dance number*
amazing... something like fuck you belivers hahahaha. Im also amazed this didnt headed into a huge debate hahaha
Atheists are a guilty as religious people in "believing shit without evidence". The theory that God exists requires faith, but the theory that God does not exist requires faith also. There is no empirical data to proove either train of thought.Agnosticism or posibilianism are much safer routes to travel down when making these kind of assertions. Anyone wanna debate that?
No thanks, you're very obviously an idiot...
I like that the comments are all meta.
Hey, anonymous guy, I'll explain since that's a pretty common misconception. Atheists don't believe in God for the same reason you don't believe in leprechauns--no evidence. You need evidence to support a claim, but none to dismiss one. Most atheists are really "agnostic atheists." They don't believe in God, but they don't pretend to know for sure either. They just find it very unlikely. Agnosticism/gnositicism are stances on whether you can/do know or not, and atheism/theism are stances on whether you believe in God or not. They are really separate issues. Make sense?
Pure win.Take that you backwards-ass theists.
Hooray for casual misogyny.
You don't know that those sluts are women.
Weak comic by weak artist/comedian.
There is plenty of evidence to support the theist's position. Have you ever seen a picture of God/Jesus? I have not. I do not mean cartoon renderings or police sketches or mis-shapen tacos. Ask your friends to show you any single picture. They cannot. Yet there is photographic evidence of a deity, or are all the PHOTOGRAPHS of Ceiling Cat simply fakes? I choose to believe!!! Evidence! It what separates the reasoning mind from the Fox News watchers. Pete
You can't choose to believe, you either do or you do not. "Choosing to believe" is called "lying to yourself".
Well, as a Christian who stumbledon here, I will post a comment. Has anyone you know (you personally, not heard of) ever became a Christian, Muslin, Atheist, changed any deeply held belief because of a debate in the comments thread of blog post?If you and I could sit down for a cup of tea or coffee or beer or whatever, and talk like civilized people we might find that reason could prevail. But twitter-like hit and run posts just confirms your bias, and mine. BTW if you really have changed you beliefs because of a blog comment, I would love to hear about it.
I reassess my belief systems all the time from what I read in comment threads. I think beliefs, much like diapers, should be changed often - mostly for the same reasons.
I must say this is the most polite, understanding and well natured thread connected to religious satire that I've ever seen. Congratulations all for maintaining a good sense of humour.
AHHH YOU ALL SUCK DICKS I'M RAPING BABIES NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER ADOLF HITLER AND MONKEY SEX.Now what?
Sure, internet comments very rarely change opinions, but they can clear up misconceptions. For example, one guy here implied that agnostics are seperate from theists/atheists, then another cleared up that misconception by explaining that agnostic is not comparable to theism or atheism, and that all "agnostics" are either a theist or an atheist.
It was perfect until the last panel.
wish full thinking but I don't think that's what happen hopefully everyone goes to heaven good luck
Theres nothing wrong with having a faith, religion isnt the problem, uptight know it all douchebags with an undeserved sense of self righteousness and elitism are.
Anonymous said... I reassess my belief systems all the time from what I read in comment threads. I think beliefs, much like diapers, should be changed often - mostly for the same reasons. July 19, 2011 8:28 AM Same with the politicians.
I agree with the other Anonymous posting. This is way more civilized than I expected the thread section of this to be.Is the internet growing up? I'm a little worried that there are no religious debates going on... =|
It is impossible to prove the non-existence of *anything* let alone a god. It's up to you believers to prove existence. It's called the "burden of proof" and so far you got the square root of fuck all.
Anonymous said... Theres nothing wrong with having a faith, religion isnt the problem, uptight know it all douchebags with an undeserved sense of self righteousness and elitism are. July 21, 2011 3:09 PMreligion is a problem it seems to have started most of the wars in the world not only that but fronts racism, death and cults
I've met God. He's a complete tosser.
I like this whole thread
i agree with you good sir
@Anonymous guys,I honestly, and I've tried to find proof otherwise, don't believe that true atheism exists. Agnosticism, sure. Atheism, nope. On the other hand, ignorance and bigotry exist. Most atheists I've had the pleasure of conversing with denied major religions--Christianity, Judaism, Muslim, Hinduism. But they believe in something. Perhaps it is nature... say, a religion like Pantheist or one of the Shinto beliefs? Perhaps it is science... say, like Spinozism? Unless somebody has explored all religions and fundamentally disagree with all of their major faiths, I can't take their claim of atheism seriously. To me, it's become a label that says: "I'm not a Christian or a Muslim and I'm too lazy to consider any other religions could exist." The only real atheist, I suppose, would be a nihilist--but then what's the point of doing anything? :P Secondly, the idea that "You need evidence to support a claim, but none to dismiss one" is also a common misconception. Science is the seeking of truth. (And I tend to know a bit about science--I'm a senior at the Georgia Institute of Technology.) This pursuit only contrasts the claim that anyone knows absolute truth. A scientist who fundamentally denies the possibility of religion is no better a scientist than a religious fanatic.
@ Yippers:I am atheist. I do not believe there is a god or gods, nor any prime mover or spiritual force, nor a soul. I believe that we are the sum of interactions between complex molecules and death is what happens when the interactions get messed up. I just thought I'd give you the ability to say that you met one. I'll leave the others to rip you up about your last sentence.
Ever thought of the possibility we're a pitri dish in space for aliens? outlandish yes, but where does two giant sums of matter and anti matter come from... and collide? just a thought
Yippers, you tool. 'I tend to know a bit about science ...' I have never heard a more pompous statement. Well, fuck you buddy, I'm not at Georgia Institute of Technology, I'm a fully fledged PhD in Argonne National Lab, and I am an atheist. Like most of my colleagues.
The Cat in the box is Both dead and Alive!!!!!!
Lol @ the poster who wrote evolution is not real b.c there are still apes. What a fucking retard.
Long live the Flying Spaghetti Monster!!!
you truly only know what you experience, everything else is just on belief. I believe this comic is awesome and the arguments are hilarious because it is just for humor. By some sort of retarded miracle this comic gains intelligence as people begin to argue with it and other comments backing it up. You really want to prove something? kill and show everyone what happens after you die. All those living will see your name in the newspaper and on t.v. as well as the internet. As for the dead, that's up to your imagination because you're crazy and your beliefs keeping from losing control of yourself. Worship and believe in the sun because that big ball of fire has more to be feared for than any god. thanks to the sun you're alive today and maybe tomorrow. At least the sun won't send you to hell and claim it loves you nor will it ask for money.
cool. But you kind of copied Daniel Tosh in his ,Completely serious stand ups. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2071488882063981540
I didn't copy him. I came up with something vaguely similar to him. I hadn't seen his stand-up when I wrote the comic. That said, he's fucking funny.
attacking peoples beliefs = lame
Whatever you believe is your own personal truth, just as what someone else believes is the truth to him or her. Accept that and we will get along much better. No matter what you believe happens after you die we should all try to get along while we are still alive.
not very funny... like at all o.O
There is always a choice in whether you want to believe or not. It is no lying to yourself if you truly believe. Some people need more than a book created by believers to believe in God. Some people are analytical and need hard DNA, artifacts, and history records with real references, not interpretation; however you sit here and say that one is lying to themselves because they believe in something that you don't.It is just a crude way to undermind the emotional values which can be just as strong as logical. I'm an agnostic, but you will never here me say that people who believe in God are lying, because how would I know; I'm not God, and neither are you.
Damn it all!!! Someone already referenced pastafarianism!!! Now i have to think of something else to post. Okay so this naked priest and a jewish guy walked into a bar.... and both were knocked unconscious! Buh-zing!!!
Dude, 'slut' is a shaming term. It doesn't matter their gender identity, it's a shaming, misogynist term. "Rustle up some sluts" implies that God and this atheist dude have some boundary issues. You're a dude. This was a sexist comic. Stfu.
@Tom, It's not sexist if the people He's rustilin' up are self-identified sluts. Or, perhaps, God, since He's omnipotent (for the purpose of the comic) is creating them as they walk to the area.Or maybe, more likely, you need to calm down. :D
Scumbag God: Doesn't allow people who believe in stuff with no evidence into heaven.Allows someone who believes in something with no evidence into heaven.
Atheism isn't a belief. It's a lack of belief. Like how you don't believe that Voltron is real.
Well, I can't decide if I'm relieved or disappointed that I haven't seen a flame war in here.Although I must admit, it does dishearten me to see that the only flaming I saw came from atheists, it continues enforcing the stereotype that atheists are intolerant dickheads. :/Oh well, great comic, I liked it. That's always been my greatest criticism of half the theists that I talk to; they base all their views entirely on faith with no rational thought. My views almost mirror a previous poster about how there aren't really any flat atheists; I personally feel that the most enlightened people are agnostic to a point, with varying degrees of theism. If you can claim to say for sure that there is or isn't a god, you almost sound conceited, as if you believe you know how the universe works without any question.Meh, I dunno. Sorry bout the novel of a comment. I personally believe there's nothing at all either, for the same point that this comic brought up.
I believe in Voltron...... ;_;
And Voltron believes in you. Amen.
haha ALL you christian, baby-jesus bashing, bible humping faggots need to get a clue! Let me elaborate. By eating and then regurgitating the mythological exploits of some long-dead sandal wearing piss-ant, you are announcing your utter gullibility and pliability, making you nothing more than a tool to be exploited by the power-hungry.If you do not possess the mental capacity to realise that externalising the god-head is a method of CONTROL, then you are a waste of space and should recycle your soul immediately. I hear drowning is quite pleasant.Tadaaah! You are a muppet. Class Dismissed.(P.S Nice comic)
Annon. of 8/10/11 11:53 pm is impolite. As long as believers are not ramming their beliefs down our throats it does not hurt to be polite. It also discourages them from setting up stakes and gathering firewood.
@art in Gayou see, the thing is, he is trying to start a flame war....and failing to do so-1 internetz to him
^^^^^WE DIDN"T START THE FLAME WAR! ^^^^
This is honestly amazing... no flame wars and it's been over a year since this was posted. I'm happy to see people getting along here. But anyway, my point of view: I'm an Orthodox Christian, but I don't ram my beliefs down other people's throats; if they respect my personal privacy and religious life, then I will give them the same respect they show me.On a less serious note, this comic was hilarious!
I can't believe so many of you are ranting on about this! IT'S JUST A COMIC BOOK!!! Get a life! lol
This cartoon was meant to create comedy through the exemplification of hypocrisy. Nothing else. Did everyone really overlook the fact that the atheist was wrong in the long run as well because according to the cartoon there was a 'God'? Hypocrisy went both ways. Don't get so defensive people.
It's more ironic than anything.
that's smart. job-good
interesting fact. THERE IS A LOT OF EVIDENCE
For the existence of God? Not even a little.
What about the bible? Do you all seriously think some dude sat down and decided to write a book that just so happens to have every single useful key needed to live a good and righteous life and happens to tell you how to know God and get into heaven. Oh right, you all just expect God to show himself to you without even bothering to read the instructions.
No, I think groups of people over the course of centuries wrote religious texts and in the fifth century they were collected and stuck together. As an aside I doubt that the "book has every single useful key to lead a good and righteous life", since you're defining that as following the book's rules. In any case, the existence of a contradictory, poorly written, at times savage collection of bronze-age writings is hardly evidence for a supernatural entity.
Anyone wanna debate that?Yes, because you're an idiot. There is no "faith" in believing something DOESN'T exist. By your logic you need evidence to prove something doesn't exist, so I guess you believe in fairy's, unicorns, dragons, and such. While there is no evidence that these things exist, there is certainly not evidence to prove they don't either (other than COMMON SENSE)
No one argument that has been made is correct, as a matter of fact, you are all equally wrong, none of you can support why your beliefs are the truth, you can only say why you believe them. What is acceptable in your reality is irrelevant, once you realize this you'll believe in nothing, and then see everything as equal.
Heh, I laughed at the moron who said "religion is the front for racism", no dumbass, evolution is the front for racism, the very theory of evolution depends on racism. P.S. I'm not religious.
Wow....How about any single one of you completely and irrevocably prove your side, religious or not.BTW... I agree with all who remind us that it's just a comic.Prove or STFU.-firstname.lastname@example.org
This comic hath totally changed my thinking! I was a believer in the nonexistence of Allah, but now I totally get that I get 72 sluts in heaven. Where's my bomb belt? Alla aqbar motherfuckers, get ready!
This comic is genius. And seriously, whoever spelled "Muslim" as "Muslin," I hope to the god that I don't believe in that it was a typo and you don't actually think a religion is spelled like a type of cloth.
If we were created in his image why were we given logical thought and brainpower to create technology? If I was a god I would create people who wouldnt question me. Wait...So we all came from a rib woman who was convinced by a talking snake to eat a fruit which made her smart which was a sin so you have to worship someone who came back to life?
Sounds plausible to me. Im in
Conventional Logic:Person A: I have a baseball!Person B: Ok, let's see it!Person A: Ok, here! *shows baseball*Religious Logic:Person A: I have a baseball!Person B: Ok, let's see it!Person A: YOU CAN'T PROVE THAT I DON'T!!
It's not really fair to say that Christians don't have any basis for their views. I, as a Christian, have scientific evidence to back up my faith as well as personal evidence (for example, my life has really changed for the better as a result of becoming a Christian.)There's no definite, irrefutable evidence for or against both Christianity and atheism. I would say that there is a lot of compelling evidence for Christianity, though, and when one looks at all of it, it'd take more faith to be atheist than Christian. You might call me biased, but that's what I believe, and it isn't going to change.
Yeah it takes faith. faith in the sense of "belief or confidence in something" not in the sense of "belief without fact". I'm an atheist (a "true" one, for the previous posters who have never met one) and believe in myself. I.e. I change and affect everything around me and choose my surroundings. It's called having an internal locus of control. I make shit happen, shit doesn't happen to me. There is plenty of irrefutable evidence against Christianity. Read the Bible, highlight passages that contradict each other. Wa-la! Or maybe recognize that at no point in history was there a mass extinction of mankind via flood (which is also non-existent). I will give you one thing though, there is no evidence "for" or "against" atheism as it is simply a lack of belief's rather than a belief system. Of course you won't change what you believe, that would require strength, and yours comes from a non-existent god and changing would be giving up strength... you see where this is going. I'm willing to change my beliefs, just give me more proof than a dusty old tome and a few coincidental "miracles".
i really want spaghetti....also this whole argument/religious/belief system debate that started over this stupidly humorous comic strip (if you can even call it that as someone mentioned earlier in the comment thread the comic is kinda weak) is pathetic, its a joke. Think dead baby jokes, those are horrible in reality and yet hilarious because they're just so fucked up not to be funny (if anyone disagrees that dead baby jokes aren't funny here's a heads up GO FUCK YOURSELF they're JOKES!!) obviously a ton of losers have no lives but who am i to judge maybe your xbox's and playstations malfunctioned or perhaps your "friends" weren't online regardless grow the fuck up and get lives its meant as a joke religion that is not the comic, that's still weak.
THERE. IS. NO. GOD.
change the word sluts into beers and it's perfect
Sweet comic. I'm agnostic. I love you all
haha that'd slut ya wouldn't it
Originally I was impressed by the maturity in the comments. But as I continued to read, it became more and more disappointing.(bear with me this rant has a purpose)I am a Christian. I'm attending a Christian university. I believe there's a God for the same reason atheists believe there is no god: lack of evidence. (I say they have belief because to say they don't believe in god implies the believe something else, whatever that may be, in which case they are no longer atheists but rather practicing members or whatever beliefs they have). Most atheists believe there is no god because Christians lack enough proof or physical evidence of God. I believe in God because I personally do not think atheists or the scientific community have provided enough proof or evidence of the big bang theory (we don't know what happened in the first 3 minutes).I have other reasons for my beliefs such as the complexity of life and nature and the human psyche but I won't get into those.I personally use my beliefs as guidelines for good and righteous living. To be perfectly honest, I doubt my faith in Christ (not the existence of Christ but my faith) almost daily. But that doesn't stop me from living a good life because I believe I'm here for a reason. That being said I want to say that I find it sad that people feel they have to stoop to name calling and imply that Christians are uneducated. I have no problem with anyone of another religion. As long as you/your religion don't/doesn't engage in or encourage the harming of others I'm ok with you. So why can't it work both ways?If anyone wants to have a good-natured debate, ask me questions, etc, you can email me at email@example.comAlso, @Mongrel Designs, I just wanna say that this comic was (and is) hilarious. Thanks for bearing with me :)
" I believe in God because I personally do not think atheists or the scientific community have provided enough proof or evidence of the big bang theory""I say they have belief because to say they don't believe in god implies the believe something else""and imply that Christians are uneducated."/facepalm
